Great night out at Eataly in NYC with my wife Elmina and some great friends, Giorgio Klinar, Carolyn Connor, Alicia Vitarelli and Matthew Pantaleno. I should mention this was my 4th visit in 7 days. I think I should be the ambassador for Eataly. What do you say, Mr. Batali and Mr. Bastianich?
Anyway, we started our night with a few glasses of vino and a salumi e formaggi platter in La Piazza. We also devoured a fresh mozzarella and basil platter.

For dinner, we ate at Il Pesce, which is Eataly’s fish restaurant. We started out with a shrimp spiedino, poached tuna belly and salmon roe crostini. For our main courses, we shared the fritto misto, branzino al forno, pan seared cod with wild mushrooms and a contorni of vegetables.

And we finished out the evening with a few dolci (sospiri and a flourless hazelnut cake) and a couple of espressi from Caffè Vergnano 1882.
Highlights of the evening were the mozzarella & basil platter (amazingly fresh mozzarella), the salumi e formaggi platter (the speck was awesome, as was the fresh ricotta), the fritto misto (fresh and fried to perfection) & the salmon roe crostini (beautiful, orange eggs that tasted of the sea).
I also did a little shopping. I picked up a few different packages of pasta and a couple of bags of legumes. I look forward to experimenting with them. And to top it all off, we met former N.J. Governor Jon Corzine at the checkout counter. What a night we had! Enjoy!
